“Some notes on an endless piece of music”

Writing about my life so far would be an interesting idea, in view of letting me dig into the past for old memories, look at the goals that I have achieved so far and settle on my future ambitions.

My name is Nick Stefanoglou and I was born in Athens, Greece in 1993. From my early childhood I was listening to music and trying to play the rhythms of the songs with my hands. I remember my father playing old records on the stereo and telling me stories about the importance and the true meaning of Greek folk music and poetry.

At the age of 12 I had my first musical experience when I first saw a group of friends playing pop songs. I fell in love with music ever since. I began having guitar lessons at the local music school in Athens with John Patelis who taught me the essentials of the electric guitar and motivated me to continue. Along with my guitar lessons I also attended music theory lessons. I hold the Grade 8 in Theory of Music, Grade 8 in Electric guitar performance and the Greek degree in Harmony of Music.

I was really fond of Rock and Blues music, especially the works of  guitar players such as Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robben Ford, Eddie Van Halen, Jeff Beck, Eric Johnson and many more which had a great impact on me. I started playing with bands and performing concerts on genres such as Rock, Blues and Folk music. At 20 years of  age I started guitar lessons with Theodosios Kosmidis, a graduate of the Maastricht Conservatorium who really got me into jazz. I started listening and studying the techniques of many guitar players such as Django Reinhardt, Wes Montgomery, Grant Green, Joe Pass and of course essential jazz horn players such as Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Chet Baker, Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon, Cannonball Adderley and many more.

From 2011 to present I have been teaching the guitar in the “Conservatory of Classical and Contemporary Music” music school and in private lessons.

At the moment, I am preparing myself to study at the university. This will provide me with all the knowledge and the experience I need to continue my further studies and my music career in general.

When it comes to knowledge and experience, there are no limits. Ambitions are the motivating force to success and as Heraclitus once said, “Big results require big ambitions”
