Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing this letter in order to request admission to the Bachelor degree in Jazz Music program. I am very interested in beginning a career in music and this degree, in one of the most respected conservatories, is definitely what I need to strengthen my music abilities, enrich my knowledge and fulfill myself in personal context.

My inspiration to study music first came when a group of friends formed a band playing pop songs, I was amazed to see friends of mine playing songs of famous bands that I heard on the radio. It did not take me too long to ask them to play together. At the age of 12 I started playing the electric guitar at the “Conservatory of Classical and Contemporary Music” music school with a very inspiring guitar teacher that taught me the basics of the instrument and music. Three years later I started lessons on music theory, that helped me understand all the things that I could play on the guitar in depth at that time. The knowledge that I acquired from Grade 8 in Theory of music, Grade 8 in Performance and the lessons on History of music, Music analysis, Solfege, Ear training, Piano Harmony, Choir and Counterpoint improved the way I developed new ideas and helped me in the process of composing my own music. Music composition as a subject is something that I find very interesting and useful because it will enable me to illustrate my ideas, develop my creativity and do my own research.

All these years I have been playing the guitar with a lot of bands in many genres of music such as, Classic Rock, Blues, Jazz and Folk music. This experience has shown me the importance of playing different styles of music. In addition to my musical activities over the last five years I have been teaching the guitar in the local Music School and in private lessons. I find it very appealing for a young musician to impart knowledge to others and also inspire them to play and practice music. At the moment I am taking guitar lessons with a very influential guitar teacher and I am preparing myself to study at the university.

Studying at the Conservatory would be the ideal choice for me at this point because it will provide me with all the knowledge I need to continue my career in music . I will be able to further my stylistic approach in Jazz, improve my techniques on the guitar, benefit from playing with a combo, advance my theoretical knowledge and learn more about the history of Jazz and Classical Music. These are all major reasons to take part in this program. The Conservatory is well-known for its Music courses, its accomplished lecturers, the diverse projects it offers as well as its research programs. The opportunity to play in the Conservatory’s Big Band would also be an unforgettable experience for me. Another reason I am drawn to the Conservatory is that being part of such a large community of international students will give me the opportunity to make new friendships, exchange opinions about music in general, form new bands and expand my social network.

I believe that studying abroad will be a huge benefit to my life both academically and culturally, it will expand my horizons and will significantly assist my future career ambitions.

Thank you in advance for your consideration and time.

Yours faithfully,

Nick Stefanoglou
